Isavuconazole as salvage therapy for mucormycosis
Mucormycosis carries a high mortality rate with few therapeutic options available. We describe a man with pulmonary/splenic mucormycosis complicating hypoplastic myelodysplastic syndrome on a background of chronic kidney disease, who achieved a complete response with salvage isavuconazole therapy following intolerance of consecutive courses of liposomal amphotericin and posaconazole therapy.
متن کامل- - * * Cutaneous Mucormycosis — A Case Report —
Cutaneous mucormycosis is an uncommon fungal infection, occurring mainly in immunosuppressed and diabetic patients, leading to mortality if adequate treatment is delayed. It could also happen in normal healthy person after localized trauma. Here we report a case of cutaneous mucormycosis manifesting as a painful erythematous papule, rapidly progressing to necrotic ulcer with eschar formation. T...
متن کاملAn unusual ulcer: A case of cutaneous mucormycosis caused by Rhizopus oryzae
Mucormycoses are high-mortality infections feared by clinicians worldwide. They predominantly affect immunocompromised hosts and are associated with a spectrum of disease. We describe a case of cutaneous mucormycosis caused by Rhizopus oryzae in a patient with multiple risk factors cured with complete surgical excision and a short course of antifungal therapy.

DNA renaturation experiments gave evidence to conclude that Rhizopus arrhizus, R. OIyzae, R. delemar, Amylomyces rou.xii, R. delemar var. minimus, R. delemar var. multiplicisporus, R. arrhizus var. delemar, R. chungkuoensis var. isqfermentarius, and R. javanicus var. kawasakiensis can be accommodated in three taxa, namely, R. arrhizus var. arrhizus, R. arrhizus var. rozedi, and R. arrhizus var....
متن کاملSuccessful therapy of progressive rhino-orbital mucormycosis caused by Rhizopus arrhizus with combined and sequential antifungal therapy, surgery and hyperbaric therapy
We present a case of rhino-orbitary mucormycosis which progressed despite liposomal amphotericin and early surgical debridement. Combined echinocandin and high dose liposomal amphotericin, repeated debridement, prolonged therapy with hyperbaric oxygen and continued therapy with posaconazole, along with strict diabetic control, allowed cure without disfigurement.
